Where Did Formation Land on the Decade List?

at 1:08:17

From the episode: 49: Beyoncé

Answer

Duffy counts Beyoncé on Pitchfork's best songs of the decade. Formation is number 4. Countdown is number 28. One Plus One is number 157, and Duffy pauses to note that one plus one equals two. XO is number 182. He says she landed four times, and that the count leaves out other tracks that only feature Beyoncé. He also puts the wider Beyoncé-related Best New Track pile at 11, including albums where she was a contributor rather than the headliner.

Mack likes Formation at the top of that pile. He calls it one of her more interesting and better singles, potentially up there with Single Ladies, and the single that shows her evolution most. It is a song, he says, that she would never have put out on B'Day. Mike agrees. Formation does not match the Halo and Single Ladies side of I Am... Sasha Fierce. For Mike, the song encapsulates the evolution of Beyoncé.
