Why Does Stronger Language Get More From AI?
Guillermo Rauch says you get a lot more out of AI systems the stronger your language gets. He has only grown more radical about storytelling: the world is made of stories, people remember the best stories, and what ships and earns love does so because it was part of a story people can connect to the creators through.
The habit started before Vercel. Getting into high school in Argentina meant exams and competitions. He was good at math, which is what his parents knew, but a lot of his points came from literature and the Spanish side of the exams. He has always looked up to the Argentinian writer Borges, whose stories take on physics, the universe, and recursion, almost like a proto-programming expert, and who cared about language and vocabulary. Borges, like him a native Spanish speaker, had tremendous respect for the flexibility and physicality of English.
As CEO of Vercel he communicates with employees to motivate and inspire them, communicates with the world, and now talks to agents so he communicates to computers very directly. He has become more neurotic about the quality of language, including how words flow on a blog post or a tweet, because every communication can be intentionally designed. A big part of his evolution has been nonstop refinement of how he communicates with the world.
