How Does Plain English Shape Omarchy?
David Heinemeier Hansson says you sit down, ramble in plain English, and out comes an operating system shaped in your image. Omarchy was not going to be a cheap copy made as familiar as possible and then worse. An unkind reading is that Ubuntu tried familiarity so people who do not want to learn something new might care about free as in speech, not as in beer. It did not pan out. People wanted whatever was better.
Linux now has the opportunity to win as an agentic, malleable operating system you can tailor to your desires, and that malleability is unparalleled. Since the release of Quattro, people have embraced it, started making their own things, shared screenshots, and been flooded with positive emotions and dopamine. The flood is the product market fit signal. The high of programming is arcane commands and a rigid logical structure that produce what you want. A 20 minute ramble in plain English, with course corrections, now produces software in your image.
Feel that power and it is very difficult to go back. Get it right and the experience will seem obvious in retrospect. Computers were always meant to work the way they started with the Commodore 64.
