Should Open Source Maintainers Welcome AI Pull Requests?
David Heinemeier Hansson says open source maintainers should welcome AI pull requests, because sharing a tool built for one person is simpler than it looks. By the time that tool is done, tell the agent to put it on GitHub.
The agent figures out the repo, writes a readme, and starts GitHub releases so the work stays trackable. It is a better software maintainer than a person could be, far more patient and far more diligent about the drudgery of managing open source software. The builder can keep the joy of using the software and evolving it. A lot of maintainers are upset about a huge influx of pull requests from people who may not be the best programmers, or programmers at all. Free contributions are there to take or leave. The complaint sounds like a steak that is too juicy and a lobster that is too buttery. Open source long promised that everyone could contribute.
