How Much Has Anthropic Agreed to Spend on Compute?
Ed Elson says Anthropic has already signed up to spend $800 billion, and those dollars are not on the income statement yet. He reads more than $160 billion in a compute agreement with Broadcom, $120 billion with SpaceX, and $110 billion with Amazon. The sellers are companies Anthropic has named as competitors.
Josh Brown asks what else they would do. Getting caught without enough compute is worse than overcommitting, because the work then goes to Alphabet. Ed Elson says the choices look right given that bind. The filing says Anthropic will build its own computing infrastructure, requiring what it calls substantial capital expenditures that will change the cash flow profile of the business. Staying independent means tens of billions that are not showing up yet. He also says that after a neocloud shakeout, buying one of them cheaply might be a way through.
