Is AI Risk More Imminent Than Climate Change?

Yes. Bill Gates says the risk of AI is so much more imminent and so much more dramatic than climate change that one party which does not care would be a failure of democracy. Climate politics ended with one party calling the problem a hoax and the other calling it serious. The same split on AI would be a failure.

One party at full speed ahead and the other ready to stop altogether would be very unfortunate. AI can be shaped for health, education, and almost every area of human endeavor. The Gates Foundation is putting all of its resources into AI for health, education, and agriculture. Parties should hold a view more nuanced than all bad or all good. The split shows how early the politics still are.
