Why Does Jessica Hische Want Studio Works to Stay Small?

Jessica Hische wants Studio Works to stay small because growing well beyond the team would fail the vision and make giving back less possible.

She thinks a blow-up tomorrow would be bad. The shape she wants is slow, sustainable growth: the current team, maybe some customer service people, small enough to punch above their weight. No one person should sit atop a pile of emeralds. The practical aim is to make sure the kids can go to college and to help aging parents. The ultimate goal is to turn Studio Works into a vehicle for giving back to the community.

Keeping the team really small, and not growing beyond what the work needs, makes giving back possible. Turning Studio Works into a proper company with 100 employees makes it less possible. The goals are to make a tool that is exactly what people need and not what they do not, make the team whole for the time and energy they put in, and look for every way to make Studio Works a vehicle to give back to the creative community.
